Proverbs are wonderful! I'm listening to today's right now....

Does anybody out there have a particular favorite proverb?:silly:
Rain Re:Love the proverbs
I am one of those who much prefer Psalms! But I like the first 9 or ten chapters of proverbs really well. The rest has some some very good stuff in it too, but my UNfavorite is Proverbs 31. I read that and just want to go back to bed if that is the standard. God forgot to give me servant girls! I'm sure I could be that perfect if I just had a servant girl or two! grin! Short of that I won't be weaving my own clothes in the near future. I try to make it contemporary, and just can't quite get into it. Life is hard enough without the standard being a hundred feet in the air and the words saying 'jump this high and you'll be loved' as the undercurrent.

You don't have to jump that high. God loves you no matter how high you jump. And don't worry about not being able to weave your own clothes. I imagine what that verse is saying is that the 'noble wife' isn't lazy.
Rain Re:Love the proverbs
Lol! Thank you for that, I'm sure you are right! But it's hard to separate the message that being loved is linked only to performance from that chapter. It says nothing about this woman's heart, she knows no hardship, she has not been abandoned, it never mentions if she prays and doesn't mention God at all, I don't know. I'm sure it is my attitutude, and I DO love the verse in it that Deb has in her signature, but there are people who are focused on DOing and people who are gifted with BEing. Not that either one is lazy. My mom was a BE-er. And I call her blessed in comparison with friends moms who are shopping and bringing home goods from afar, on every committe, prominent in the community, my mom was found at home, being a mom. And she wasn't lazy. And she is loved. My life is very different then hers, but still not like Proverbs 31. I really really hope that someone will love me for who I am and not what I do. And where is the man version of this anyway! rofl! see bad attitude! Be quiet, rain! I should be in a pew somewhere and then I wouldn't be making trouble! ;)
Rain Re:Love the proverbs
I guess come to think of it, it DOES say at the end the she fears the Lord, so I am slightly molified! lolol!
jobr1605 Re:Love the proverbs
See? Proverbs 31 is just describing a godly woman. A godly woman doesn't have to fit that description, but if a woman did fit that description, you would know that she is godly. Yea, I think this is a good way to put it.
